Darcy Macrae found his passion for music while growing up in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. Darcy's ambitions in music have led him to one of the biggest music capitals of the world - New York City.
When encouraged by his family, Darcy began studying music on his first set of drums at a very young age. Being self-taught for many years, Darcy eventually had the opportunity to study with some of Toronto's most well known drummers. At the age of 13, Darcy was performing in local clubs with the band "Triple Whipple"-fronted by his oldest brother Derek Macrae. This band performed regularly at schools and clubs around the Greater Toronto area. Throughout Darcy's youth, the commitment and determination to perform live was at the top of his list. In high school, Darcy was an active member of the Big Band and Jazz ensembles. In addition to a busy music and academic schedule, Darcy composed a percussion piece that competed in the Canadian National High School Music Competition and won "Most Honorary Percussionist" award. After graduating from high school, Darcy moved to London, England to explore new music avenues. Shortly after moving, Darcy made some great music connections and started performing around the United Kingdom with other Blues artists. After living in London for one year, Darcy moved back to the Toronto area to perform with the R&B show band "Downstroke". In 2000, Darcy began studying at Berklee College of Music when awarded a four-year scholarship. During his time at Berklee, Darcy was a member of many bands in the Boston area, which performed Jazz, R & B, Hip-Hop, Latin, Afro-Cuban and Pop. In addition to studying at Berklee, Darcy was a student with renowned drummers Kenwood Dennard, Mark Walker, Yoron Israel, Jamey Haddad, Jon Hazilla, Jim Blackley, bassist Ron Mahdi, and Saxophonists Ed Tomassi. Darcy finished his BM Degree in 2003. Immediately graduating Berklee College, Darcy moved to New York City and started performing with groups such as MTpockets, Manhattan Swing Orchestra, Dave Gross, Maor, Bid Ed Sullivan, Rosalie Vega, The Symbolics, studio recordings/T.V. jingles for production companies OSI and Edison Music Co., and a sub-drummer for the off-Broadway musicals "Newsical" and "See What I Wanna See", and the on-Broadway musical "Mamma Mia". In 2003, Darcy left NYC to go on the National Tour of "Wicked". After being out on tour for four years, Darcy now resides in New York to freelance on Broadway musicals and other independent projects. |
